DETOURE — A Bold New Take on Thrift Retail
Concept Development & Retail Experience Strategy
Working closely with the CEO, I helped develop the DETOURE store concept to connect with its target consumer and redefine the traditional thrift-shopping experience. Built around the idea of “Redefining Thrifting. One Closet at a Time,” the concept brings influencer culture, coveted fashion, and accessible secondhand shopping together in an immersive, personality-driven retail environment. The vision was to create a destination that felt aspirational, culturally relevant, and highly engaging, where discovering pre-loved fashion becomes an experience in its own right.
Storefront & Window Display
The storefront was envisioned as a bold expression of DETOURE’s brand personality, designed to capture attention from the street and entice the target consumer to step inside. Illuminated black signage establishes a strong brand presence, while blush-pink velvet curtains frame the expansive windows and introduce a theatrical, retro-inspired aesthetic. Three styled mannequins feature statement accessories and provocative messaging that communicate the influencer-thrift concept, while a glossy pink vintage convertible serves as the centerpiece. Checkerboard flooring, branded graphics, fashion imagery, and diner-inspired seating complete the display, creating a memorable visual statement that merges nostalgia with contemporary creator culture.
Interior Design & Visual Merchandising
The interior extends the concept through a distinctive mix of exposed brick, industrial finishes, polished concrete floors, and vibrant pink and mint-green accents. Black-and-white checkerboard details establish continuity between the storefront and interior, reinforcing a cohesive brand identity. Color-organized apparel racks present curated secondhand merchandise in an accessible, visually engaging way, while dedicated footwear displays elevate product discovery. Central fixtures establish clear sightlines and intuitive shopping pathways, complemented by pink upholstered benches that add comfort and personality. Fashion photography, branded graphics, and statement displays further connect the merchandise to the creator-inspired lifestyle at the heart of the concept.
The Customer Experience
Every design decision was intended to connect with DETOURE’s target consumer by making secondhand fashion feel curated, aspirational, and culturally relevant. The storefront creates an immediate sense of discovery, while the interior encourages exploration through distinctive visual merchandising, organized product presentation, and immersive brand storytelling. Developed in partnership with the CEO, the concept translates the brand’s vision into a physical retail experience that positions thrifting as a fresh, fashion-forward alternative to traditional resale shopping, while giving coveted pieces a second life and supporting a more circular future for fashion.
